João Picoito is the Vice-President of NOKIA for South, East and Central Europe and Central Asia, and has more than 20 years of experience in management and leadership positions in the telecommunications sector.
Graduated in 1987 in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineer for the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, he also concluded the Advanced General Management Program in the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin, in cooperation with University of Harvard (USA) and the University of Humboldt (Berlin), as well as an Executive Leadership Program given by Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina (USA).
During his professional path, João Picoito has been involved in various initiatives in this sector, contributing actively for the innovation and development of the Knowledge Society. In 2004, he was elected Personality of the Year for his contribution in information’s society. In the beginning of 2006 he was honored by the former President of the Portuguese Republica, Jorge Sampaio, with the prize of Comendador da Ordem de Mérito Agrícola, Comercial e Industrial, in the class of Industrial Merit. In the same year, he also was Doutor Honoris Causa for the University of Aveiro.
He is a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2013.
