[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The 2nd Edition of EurAfrican Forum took place on July 4 and 5, 2019, with the theme \u201cPartnership of Equals: Sharing Values, Sharing Prosperity\u201d, at the Grand Auditorium of NOVA School of Business and Economics, Cascais.<\/span>
\nWith this theme the aim was to focus on <\/span>a new approach and paradigm for Europe and Africa\u2019s relations, faced as equals, to create the framework and forge impact transformation, changing the narrative for both continents for a shared prosperous and sustainable joint-future. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Forum was attended by 455 participants<\/strong>, coming from 17 European countries (67% of the participants) and 24 African countries (32% of the participants), with 30% female participants, 56% coming from companies, 17% from institutions, 10% from governments, 12% from media groups and 5% Portuguese Diaspora Counselors.<\/p>\n

The main debate topics were the following:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Panel 1 \u2013 African entrepreneurs driving inclusive innovation and growth<\/a><\/span> – sponsored by Omatapalo. <\/em>The speakers were Didier Acouetey<\/a><\/span>, President and Founder of AfricSearch group (Togo \/ France); Khadija Idrissi Janati<\/span><\/a>, Founder of I-AFRIKA (Marocco); Linda Mabhena-Olagunju<\/a><\/span>, Founder and Managing Director of DLO Energy Resources Group (South Africa); and Tunde Kehinde<\/a><\/span>, Co-Founder of Lidya (Nigeria).\u00a0 John Gapper<\/a><\/span>, associate editor of the Financial Times (United Kingdom) was the panel moderator.<\/p>\n

Panel 2 \u2013 From donor-recipient towards equal participation<\/a><\/span> – sponsored by Mota-Engil. <\/em>The speakers of this panel were Eugene Boadu<\/span><\/a>, Head of Corporate Affairs of mPedigree (Ghana); Jasandra Nyker<\/span><\/a>, CEO of BioTherm Energy (South Africa); Koen Doens<\/a><\/span>, Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development, European Commission (Belgium); and Michael Stopford<\/a><\/span>, Managing Director of Oxford Analytica (United Kingdom). The moderator was Nozipho Mbanjwa<\/a><\/span>, Founder and Lead Moderator at Akwande Communications (South Africa).<\/p>\n

Panel 3 \u2013\u00a0 Changing the narrative: valuing talent and diversity from migrant flows<\/a><\/span>. The speakers were: Enuma Okoro<\/a><\/span>, Author, (Nigeria \/ USA); Tina Charisma<\/a><\/span>, Founder of \u201cCharisma Campaign\u201c (Ghana \/UK); and Vivian Onano<\/a><\/span>, Founder\/Director at Leading Light Initiative (Kenya). The moderator was Marie Lora-Mungai<\/a><\/span>, Founder and CEO of Restless Global (France).<\/p>\n

Panel 4 \u2013 Africa: the new frontier for impact investment and innovation<\/a><\/span>. With Christelle Kupa<\/a><\/span>, Founder and CEO of Uhusiano Capital (Congo\/ Belgium); Erick Yong<\/a><\/span>, CEO of GreenTec Capital Partners Africa (Germany); Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngeles Le\u00f3n L\u00f3pez<\/a><\/span>, Co-Founder of Open Value Foundation (Spain); Kim Kreilgaard<\/span><\/a>, Head of Lisbon Office of the European Investment Bank (Luxembourg\/Portugal); and V\u00e8na Arielle Ahouansou<\/a><\/span>, CEO of Kea Medicals (Benin). John Gapper<\/a><\/span>, Associate editor of the Financial Times (United Kingdom) was also the moderator of this panel.<\/p>\n

Panel 5 \u2013 Legacy to growth: rehabilitating the heritage, culture and tourism<\/a><\/span> – sponsored by Turismo de Portugal. <\/em>On this panel participated Ana Mendes Godinho<\/a><\/span>, Tourism Secretary of State of Portugal (Portugal); and Mossadeck Bally<\/a><\/span>, Founder and CEO of the Azalai Hotels Group (Mali). It was moderated by\u00a0Jonathan Rosenthal<\/a>,<\/span> Africa Editor of The Economist (United Kingdom).<\/p>\n

On July 4 afternoon, four parallel sessions took place outside the Grand Auditorium<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Session 1 \u2013 Rebuilding Mozambique<\/span><\/a>, with El\u00edsio Macamo<\/span><\/a>, Professor of African Studies at the University of Basel (Mozambique\/Switzerland); Fabio Scala<\/a><\/span>, Founder of FurtherMarkets (United Kingdom); Francisco Pereira<\/a><\/span>, Executive Director, Mozambique Post-Cyclones Reconstruction Office (Mozambique); Gregor Binkert<\/a><\/span>, Board Member of Beluluane Industrial Park of Mozambique (Switzerland); and Jo\u00e3o Figueiredo<\/span><\/a>, Chairman and CEO Moza Banco, Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Session 2 \u2013 Security, Migration and Talent<\/a><\/span> \u2013 This session will be designed in collaboration with the Institute of Security and Strategy Foundation of Poland,<\/em> with Camilla Rocca<\/a><\/span>, Head of Research at Mo Ibrahim Foundation (United Kingdom); Grzegorz Ma\u0142ecki<\/a><\/span>, President of the Board of Institute of Security and Strategy Foundation (Poland); Jacek Raubo<\/span><\/a>, Security Expert (Poland); and St\u00e9phanie Asare<\/a><\/span>, Secretary General of Welcoming Diasporas (Ghana \/France).<\/p>\n

Session 3 \u2013 Tools and strategies for woman and youth empowerment<\/a><\/span>. With the participation of Lilian Ore<\/a><\/span>, Founder and CEO of Global Connections for Women foundation (Nigeria\/USA); and Oyin Solebo<\/a><\/span>, COO & Founder \u2013 Movemeback (Nigeria \/UK).<\/p>\n

Session 4 \u2013 EU-AF Economic Integration and Digital Infrastructure for Africa<\/a><\/span>. With Lu\u00eds Cunha<\/span><\/a>, Managing Partner of McKinsey Africa (Portugal\/South Africa); Markus Lienkamp<\/span><\/a>, Professor of Automotive Technology at Technical University of Munich (Germany); Precious Lunga<\/a><\/span>, Co- Founder & CEO of Baobab Circle (Zimbabwe); and Samir Abdelkrim<\/a><\/span>, Founder of EMERGING Valley (France).<\/p>\n

The keynotes of this edition were Ant\u00f3nio Vitorino<\/a><\/span>, \u00a0Director General for the International Organization for Migrations – UN Migration Agency (IOM) for a keynote address about the migration dialogue between Europe and Africa, Elijah Amoo Addo<\/span><\/a>, Founder and CEO of the Food for All Africa Programme, and Siyanda Mohutsiwa<\/a><\/span>, Satirical Writer (Bostwana \/ USA). Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/a><\/span>, United Nations Secretary-General, participated with a special video message. The institutional speakers were Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, who participated in a Conversation between Presidents<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, moderated by Cristina Esteves<\/a><\/span>; Augusto Santos Silva<\/a><\/span>, Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Portugal; Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso<\/a><\/span>, Chairman of the EurAfrican Forum; Filipe de Botton<\/a><\/span>, President of the Board of the Portuguese Diaspora Council; and Miguel Pinto Luz<\/a><\/span>, Deputy Mayor of Cascais also delivered keynotes.<\/p>\n

The master of ceremony was once again Thora Arnorsdottir<\/a><\/span>, documentary producer (Iceland).<\/p>\n

Other special moments were also part of this 2nd edition of the EurAfrican Forum, such as Welcome Drink for speakers and partners at Hotel Estoril Pal\u00e1cio, on July 3, where it also occurred a protocol signature with Lusa, news agency, media partner of the event. It was also signed a protocol with AICEP – Portugal Global on July 4.<\/p>\n

An Advisory Board was constituted for this second edition, to support on the definition\u00a0of strategic and innovative advice, knowledge, expertise and different perspectives about the topics of concern of the EurAfrican Forum platform, to encourage the development of the framework for sustainable growth and prosperity. It is composed by a group of highlight personalities from the Euro-African diaspora:\u00a0Christian Kamayou<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0CEO MyAfricanStartUp, France;\u00a0<\/span>Kola Karim<\/a><\/span>, Founder & CEO of Shoreline Group (Nigeria);\u00a0Sophia Bekele<\/a><\/span>, Founder & CEO of CBS International and DotConnectAfrica Group (Etiopia); Manuel Mota<\/a><\/span>, CEO of Mota-Engil Africa (Portugal);\u00a0Pauline Mujawamariya Koelbl<\/a><\/span>, Innovation Catalyst, PROWAH Co-Founder and Angel Investor (Switzerland); and \u00a0Ziad Oueslati<\/a><\/span>, Managing Director and Co-Founder of AfricInvest (Tunisia).<\/p>\n

A selected group of Portuguese Diaspora Counselors – the Special Interest Group of the Portuguese Diaspora Council – was also constituted for the development of relevant topics and for the positioning and worldwide awareness of the EurAfrican Forum. It is constituted by:\u00a0<\/span>Carlos Pone<\/span><\/a>, Former CEO AECOM Africa and Former CEO ABB SSA (Portugal\/South Africa);\u00a0 Christophe Fonseca<\/a><\/span>, Portuguese-French film director and member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council\u00a0 (Portugal\/France);\u00a0Gon\u00e7alo Terenas<\/a><\/span>, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Cultural Promotion (Portugal\/ Senegal and West Africa); Miguel Azevedo<\/a><\/span>, Head of Investment Banking for the Middle East and Africa, Citigroup (Portugal\/UK); Pedro Pereira da Silva<\/a><\/span>, General Manager of Pick n\u2019 Pay Retail (Portugal \/ South Africa);\u00a0S\u00e9rgio Pimenta<\/a><\/span>, Vice-President of International Finance Corporation for the Middle East and Africa (Portugal \/ USA).<\/p>\n

The EurAfrican Forum<\/span><\/strong> platform is founded on the idea that the diaspora work as a connecting force between cities, regions and continents, between cultures, companies and people.<\/p>\n

It is an action-oriented platform that aims to foster stronger collaboration between Europe and Africa, to better promote a shared green and inclusive growth for the two continents, uncover new business and social impact investment opportunities and challenges, creating synergies between both innovation models.<\/p>\n

The launching of the\u00a01st edition of the EurAfrican Forum<\/a><\/span>\u00a0took place on July 10, 2018, in Portugal, with the theme \u2018Crafting Coalitions for Change\u2019 and had 350 participants (35% Africans and 65% Europeans) African and European leaders from the entrepreneur sector, academy, culture, non-governmental organizations, public institutions, young entrepreneurs, media and social influencers. Four topics were under discussion:\u00a0trust,<\/strong>\u00a0resource share<\/strong>, the Fourth Revolution impacts<\/strong> and the role of the Diaspora<\/strong> on re-balancing the Euro-African regions. The EurAfrican Forum has the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic and the Portuguese Government, and is co-hosted by the Municipality of Cascais.
