David Marçal, biochemist and science disseminator, is the coordinator of the GPS network.

The GPS network is an initiative of the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, implemented through a collaboration with the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture – Ciência Viva, of the University of Aveiro, Altice Labs and the PT Foundation. One of the major goals of the GPS network is to understand how many, where they are and how are the paths of Portuguese scientists around the world.

Its mission is also to foster collaboration between Portuguese scientists working in different countries, to bring the scientific diaspora closer to the Portuguese society, in order to increase their visibility and recognition in Portugal and to promote collaborations and technology transfers.
