The Portuguese Diaspora Council (CDP) and the Council of Portuguese Communities (CCP) have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen collaboration, promote joint projects, and foster a more strategic and cohesive Portuguese diaspora.
As part of the Annual Meeting of the Council of Portuguese Communities (CCP), held on July 7 at the Almeida Santos Auditorium in the Portuguese Parliament, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Portuguese Diaspora Council (CDP) and the Council of Portuguese Communities (CCP).
The protocol was signed by António Calçada de Sá, President of the Board of the Portuguese Diaspora Council, and Flávio Martins, President of the Council of Portuguese Communities, marking the beginning of a new phase of institutional collaboration between two key entities representing Portugal across the world.
The agreement aims to foster a more cohesive, strategic, and impactful Portuguese diaspora, a mission both organizations embrace with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment, as encouraged by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Honorary President of the CDP and a guiding figure for both institutions.
During the ceremony, António Calçada de Sá expressed his gratitude to the teams involved in preparing the agreement, highlighting in particular the contribution of Pedro Pereira da Silva, member of the CDP Board, for his instrumental role in strengthening ties between the two councils.
The newly signed protocol includes several areas of collaboration, such as:
- Joint development of projects with young members of the diaspora, to be implemented in 2025/2026;
- Enhanced institutional cooperation between the CDP’s Regional Hubs and the CCP’s Vice-Presidents;
- Collaboration during Presidential visits abroad, through the identification of advisors and relevant stakeholders;
- Mutual promotion of initiatives across social media, newsletters, and institutional channels;
- Support for the Ponto PT project, promoting the Portuguese language;
- Reciprocal participation in international forums, events, and annual meetings.
This agreement represents a significant milestone in strengthening Portugal’s global presence and influence through its diaspora – enhancing synergies, mobilizing talent networks, and connecting the representative structures of the Portuguese civil society worldwide.
