The Portuguese Diaspora Council had the honor of organizing a special edition of the Diaspora Conversations with His Excellency the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, from the iconic Palácio de Belém.
The session was moderated by António Calçada de Sá, President of the Council’s Board, who was present alongside the Head of State, reinforcing the Council’s active role in the debate about Portugal’s future.
Over 100 counselors participated virtually, representing 27 countries across 5 continents, in a frank and in-depth dialogue on the major challenges of our time — from global geopolitics to digital transition and economic competitiveness — while also addressing Portugal’s strategic positioning in a rapidly changing world.
Throughout the conversation, the need for a more structured logistical connection between the Council and the Government was emphasized, strengthening coordination with key areas such as Foreign Affairs, Economy, Education, Innovation, and Culture — all crucial for the country’s internationalization and modernization.
In his closing remarks, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the essential role of the Portuguese Diaspora as a national strategic asset, highlighting that Portugal relies on the talent, knowledge, and influence of its representatives around the world.
The Portuguese Diaspora Council renews its commitment: with more than 320 active counselors in 44 countries and across 5 continents, it will continue to take Portugal further.
