Lisbon wants photovoltaic central until 2020

The Municipality of Lisboa announced that intends that the capital have a photovoltaic central until 2020, at the landfill of Vale do Forno, to supply electrical vehicles and reduce fossil energy on the city. 

It is projected that until 2020 the capital will have a tram line, 20 buses and 50 vehicles related to waste collection being supplied through solar energy.

The environment councilor talked about the work in progress related to Lisbon Green Capital 2020 highlighting that he intends to “fight the fossil energy” and have more “solar production to supply the buses and electric cars” in Lisbon.

Vale do Forno’s central will have an initial capacity of 2 megawatt (MW).

The autarchy added, also, that it is “working with Carris to calculate the expectable consume that depends on the future competitions of acquisition of buses and other details that have to be checked”, believing the environmental councilor that, until 2030 the Carris fleet will be supplied with local production”.

Another commitment of the Lisbon municipality is to increase the green spaces in the city. “We increased 200 hectares of green spaces and other 2000 more hectares are coming”, said. With this, the autarchy wants to guarantee more biodiversity, less noise, better air quality and, also, better urbanization. Other concern is the water saving, and the municipality wants to “reuse more”.
