Carlos de Carvalho graduated from ISEG in Management in 1994 and began his professional career at KPMG’s offices in Lisbon. After a year as a financial auditor at KPMG, he coordinated the B2B commercial development team for the Spanish company FAGOR Eletrodomésticos, where he developed the concept of built-in kitchens in Portugal and the construction market with fitted kitchens.

In 1997, AMROP invited him to take on the biggest project of his career: the operational management of the largest rent-a-car company operating in Portugal, AVIS. The project involved recruiting and developing teams to handle the huge influx of tourists that EXPO 98 would bring to Lisbon. He was Operations Director for Portugal until 2005, when he began to take part in international projects with a major European impact at AVIS, such as the computerization of airport parking lots and the online collection of vehicles. The Multilingual rental contract and the concept of standard service excellence in the Top 50 European airports were other projects he led.

In 2007 Carlos de Carvalho moved to Madrid to take charge of AVIS’s Spanish operation and in 2010 he went to Paris to become Operations Director for AVIS Budget in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2012, a head hunter contacted him again to invite him to take on a different project, the general management of ADP in France. ADP is a world leader in human capital management and has 2000 employees in France and an annual turnover of 400 million euros. Carlos de Carvalho joined ADP in 2013 and became President of ADP France, Switzerland and Tunisia. Recently, he also manages the Swedish unit. Carlos de Carvalho coordinates a team of 3000 employees, processing the salaries of more than 3 million private sector workers in France. It is the largest business unit outside the United States, where one in six private sector workers are paid using ADP’s IT systems and services.

Carlos de Carvalho has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since February 2024.
