João Santos Rosa has more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector, having held leadership positions across Downstream, Upstream, Integrated Gas, Strategy and Portfolio, Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, and New Business Development. Throughout his career at Shell, he has worked and lived across Europe, Oceania, Asia, and North America.
Since August 2026, he has served as President of Shell Brazil. Previously, from 2024, he was CEO of Shell Italy E&P S.p.A. and President of the Shell Group of Companies in Italy, where he led the company’s integrated portfolio, brand, and reputation in the Italian market.
He joined Shell in 2002 and has since held a range of operational, commercial, and strategic positions in the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and the Netherlands. Among his most prominent roles, he served as General Manager, Commercial and Business Development for Shell’s Deepwater division in the United States and Mexico, and as Global Vice President for Acquisitions, Divestments and New Business Development. Throughout his career, he has been involved in major strategic and portfolio decisions for the Group, including the acquisition of BG in 2015.
He holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and a Global Executive MBA from INSEAD. Prior to joining Shell, he conducted research in the fields of innovation, technology, and policy and was involved in initiatives promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in Portugal.
 
João Santos Rosa has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since May 2024.
