Paulo Esteves-Veríssimo is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Resilient Computing and Cybersecurity Center (RC3) at KAUST, University of Science and Technology King Abdullah, in Thuwal.

Before, he was a Professor and FNR PEARL Chair at the University of Luxembourg (2014—), and head of the CritiX lab at SnT center at the same University (http://wwwen.uni.lu/snt). Previously, he has been a professor of the University of Lisboa, Director of LaSIGE (http://lasige.di.fc.ul.pt), and member of the Board of the same university. He served on the task-group for the strategic development of the future (merged) ULISBOA, and was elected member of its Statutory Assembly. He has a PhD (1990) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Lisboa IST.

Veríssimo is Fellow of IEEE and Fellow of ACM. He is Chair of the IFIP WG 10.4 on Dependable Computing and Fault-Tolerance and vice-Chair of the Steering Committee of the IEEE/IFIP DSN conference, and associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Computers. He belonged to the European Security & Dependability Advisory Board, and has been serving on international evaluation panels like: IEEE Computer Society Fellows Evaluation Committee (INT), the European Research Council (EU).

Throughout his career, he gave several contributions to the advance of research in computer systems dependability and security, more recently in topics like biomedical and blockchain data, or industry 4.0 and autonomous vehicles.

Veríssimo also has an extensive track record of collaboration with international companies and public administration, in research, systems engineering, and high-level security and risk mitigation audit/consulting. For example, the Portuguese government’s computer network (CEGER), the Portuguese telecommunications system (ANACOM), critical infrastructures (EDP-Electricidade de Portugal), or on cyberspace strategy (Brazil Fed. Government).

Paulo Esteves-Veríssimo is member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since 2018.
