2024 General Meeting | April 24th
On April 24th, the 2024 General Meeting of the Portuguese Diaspora Council was held in the Sala do Futuro of the Cascais Town Hall.
The General Meeting, led by the Chairman of the General Meeting, José Manuel Durão Barroso, began its work with the presentation by the President of the Board, António Calçada de Sá, of the balance of the Portuguese Diaspora Council’s activities in 2023. With the assent of the Sole Auditor and the support of the World Portuguese Network, in person and remotely, the 2023 accounts report, the activities plan and the budget for 2024 were unanimously approved, as well as the addition of a new paragraph 3 of Article 6 of the Statutes and the amendment of the wording of a new paragraph 4 of the same Article 6 of the Statutes. In addition, a new form of membership fee was approved for the first year of membership of the Portuguese Diaspora Council and the definition of a symbolic fee for Young Councillors.
The meeting was marked by the re-election, for a new three-year term, of the Chairman of the General Meeting, José Manuel Durão Barroso, the Vice-Chairman of the General Meeting, Joana Rocha Scaff, and the Sole Auditor, Ana Pinheiro. With the support of the Chairman of the General Meeting, and of His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic and Honorary President of the Diaspora Council, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, António Calçada de Sá was also re-elected as President of the Board, who appointed the members for this new term.
The meeting was followed by a cocktail in the Salão Nobre of the Cascais Town Hall, which was attended by the Mayor of Cascais, Carlos Carreiras, and representatives of the Portuguese Diaspora Council’s most recent sponsor, the Lakhani Foundation.

On September 21, members of the CDP’s U.S. Regional Hub attended a reception for the President of Portugal, highlighting the country’s role on the international stage and fostering networking among the Portuguese community and UN representatives.
António Calçada de Sá and members of the CDP’s Spain Regional Hub attended the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nueva Economía Fórum in Madrid, presided over by King Felipe VI, where European Council President António Costa received the Fórum Europa 2025 Award.
During the official visit of the Prime Minister to China, the Minister of Economy met with Advisor Carlos Álvares to explore cooperation opportunities and promote the Greater Bay Area as a strategic platform for Portuguese companies.
