Born in Castelo Branco in 1976, Ana Paixão has a PhD in comparative literature, with a thesis on literature and music in Portugal in the 17th-19th centuries.

Ana Paixão has taught at the Universities of Paris 8 and Paris Nanterre, and is an elected external member of the Management Boards of the Universities of Paris Sorbonne, Paris III – Sorbonne nouvelle, and the Scientific Council of the University of Paris Nanterre. Ana is a member of the Scientific Council of CESEM – Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and a member of the External Strategic Council of the University of Beira Interior.

Ana has published more than 40 scientific papers in Portugal, France, Germany, Romania, Finland and Brazil.

Ana was Director of Casa de Portugal – André de Gouveia between 2010-23, where she organized more than 1000 cultural events. In September of this year, she was invited by the President of CIUP and Vice-President of the French Council of State, Jean-Marc Sauvé, to be responsible for development and strategy, a post created especially for her to hold in the General Directorate of CIUP. She works with the Rectorate of the Universities of Paris and with European and transatlantic university alliances.

Ana is in charge of the CIUP’s funding strategy – requests for support from the French state and patronage – from a budget of €46 million a year, as well as the diplomatic strategy and university partnerships, the changes to the organization chart of this structure that annually welcomes 12,000 students and researchers from all over the world in 45 houses and has 500 employees. Ana is also in charge of CIUP’s centenary celebrations, which will take place in 2025.

She is a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit by the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic (2018), Chevalier de l’Ordredes Palmes Académiques by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (2019) and Chevalier de Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture (2022).

Ana Paixão has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since October 2023.
