Currently and since 2021, Dinis Sousa is main conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and associate conductor of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras.
Born in Porto, Dinis Sousa lives in London and is the founder and artistic director of Orquestra XXI – a project that won the 2013 FAZ-IOP award, which brings together Portuguese musicians living abroad. The orchestra has appeared in the seasons of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Casa da Música and Centro Cultural de Belém.
Throughout his career, Dinis Sousa has conducted orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Euskadiko Orkestra, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Sinfonietta Riga, among others. As Associate Conductor, he has conducted the Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique in various projects, both in Europe (Salzburg and Berlin Festivals and BBC Proms) and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Dinis studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he held a Fellowship in Orchestral Conducting. On June 10, 2015, he was decorated by the President of the Republic, Dr. Aníbal Cavaco Silva, with the rank of Knight of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator.
Dinis Sousa has been a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council since June 2023.
