Azores to host NASA Space Apps Challenge

Lagoa, in São Miguel island, is going to host, for the first time in Azores, the international competition International Space Apps Challenge, promoted by NASA from october 19 to 21.

NASA Space Apps Challenge  is an international competition that gathers together thousands of worldwide teams that, in 48 hours, should be capable of solving the proposed challenges by the scientists and engineers from the North-American Space Agency.

The competition is developed in ‘hackathon’, namely, “marathons of technology development that are based on the initiative of intelligent and talented voluntaries – such as software developers, enginners, designers, scientists, or curious people with passion and will of impacting the world”, explains the release sent by the embassy of the United States in Portugal.

For this first edition held on the island, that will take place in Parque de Ciência e Tecnologia de São Miguel, the registration is free and can be made on the Space Apps Challenge 2018 site, but they are limited to 50 participants, that are grouped in teams of three to five elements.

“The winner teams of Space Apps Challenge Azores will participate on the global competition where the best solutions will be chosen”, informs the release.

The event, hosted by the USA Consulate and by the Assocation Nonagon, has a partnership with University of Azores, with Escola de Novas Tecnologias dos Açores, with Sociedade para o Desenvolvimento Empresarial dos Açores and with PROBOT – Associação de Programação e Robótica dos Açores.
